A Piece of Her Mind

Title: A Piece of Her Mind
Pairing/Character: Moira MacTaggert, Angel Salvadore, Raven Darkholme
Rating: G
Fandom: X-Men First Class
Words: ~1500
Summary: Agent MacTaggert really shouldn't be in this cocktail bar. And she really shouldn't be talking to two wanted criminals. But they seem to think there's a way for her to get back the memories she'd lost the previous year, and she can't help but listen.
Notes: Written for the rarewomen 2012 exchange for lilacsigil, who requested Angel and/or Moira: "characters where we were given a basic sketch, but very little about their lives or thoughts. I would love to see more about any of them and their lives outside the movie frame." I hope this fits the bill!

African Heads of State

Title: African Heads of State
Pairing/Character: Ororo Munroe
Rating: Teen
Fandom: X-Men
Words: ~3000
Summary: "African heads o'state are all the same. Put 'em in power and they all go nuts," he says. Does Logan remember her current job title? Put 'em in power and they all go nuts, indeed. As if Logan would rise to the challenge of leading a country whose resources have been routinely pillaged by wealthy foreigners, whose infrastructure is basically nonexistent? The trouble with Logan's version of history is that it leaves out several hundred years of colonial oppression. Logan might argue there's little difference between Europeans oppressing Africans and Africans oppressing Africans, but Ororo knows that isn't true.
This is something of a remix of Warren Ellis's Astonishing X-Men: Xenogenesis miniseries, though I wrote it with the intent that you don't need to have read the comics to read this.
Notes: This story is kind of a remix of Warren Ellis's Astonishing X-Men: Xenogenesis miniseries. It follows the same basic plot but we see it from Ororo's perspective. I've included some quotes from the comics, so a big hat tip to Warren Ellis is required.

If you haven't read Xenogenesis, I think that I included enough of the story for it to stand alone without being boring if you have read Xenogenesis. I hope! Anyway, there's also a quick summary on Wikipedia if you haven't read it and want to catch up. This story also refers to the incidents of Ghost Box (Ororo's recent return to the X-Men) but again, my hope is that it will stand without having read that. However, a key piece of information: a ghost box opens a portal to another dimension, but using one leaves behind weird radiation that has adverse effects on the area where the ghost box is activated.

Also, Mbangawi is the fictional Marvelverse African nation where most of this story takes place. Warren Ellis never gives a demonym for the people who live there, so I went with "Mbangawians." He stated that it was loosely based on Tanzania and Uganda, so I gave it the same official languages as those nations (English and Swahili), which were also not specified in the comics.

Written for the rarewomen fest for karrenia_rune, who said, "Ororo in whatever capacity or incarnation is just all-kinds of awesome." I really hope this suits you!

Title: Dissonance
Pairing/Character: Logan/Remy
Rating: G
Fandom: X-Men
Words: ~700
Summary: Ever since he learned how to talk, and maybe even before that, Remy LeBeau has been incredibly persuasive. The result is that he has encountered very few problems in his life that he couldn't talk his way out of. Logan, on the other hand, has encountered very few problems in his life that he couldn't fight his way out of.

Yet Logan's nightmares are a recurring problem for both of them, and it seems they cannot be talked or fought away.
Notes: Written for pocky_slash's Lover's Dictionary Fest, where participants are assigned an entry from David Levithan's novel The Lover's Dictionary as prompts for creative works.

Mine was:

dissonance, n.
Nights when I need to sleep and you can't. Days when I want to talk and you won't. Hours when every noise you make interferes with my silence. Weeks when there is a buzzing in the air and we both pretend we don't hear it.

Remix Reveals!

Holla, I wrote one remix and three Remix Madness ficlets!

My main remix was: But We Are Not Snakes (The Living With Ghosts Remix), a remix of But We Are Not Snakes by lorax.
I was stoked to get to remix this story--it's kind of a weird, broody Remy/John story, which is kind of an odd pairing. And hers is entirely from John's POV, and John doesn't really get why Remy's with him. So I (unsurprisingly) wrote it from Remy's POV. Before I posted this I predicted that only the recipient would read this, and I have been validated in that belief. I know, it's a weird pairing. Totally fine with that; the recipient seems to have enjoyed it and I loved writing it. Hurrah!

Then for Remix Madness I wrote:

My Marxist Feminist Dialectic and You (The Passionate Politics Remix), a remix of My Marxist Feminist Dialectic and You by littledust.
IDK, I had never written any Community fic before, but I liked littledust's Community commentfic awhile ago and decided to give it a whirl!

Riding Lessons (The Indian 841 Remix), a remix of Riding Lessons by pocky_slash.
When I read this ficlet my first thought was, "Why are Erik and Moira both just hanging out in the garage?" So I decided to write why. Well, Moira's why, anyway.

knit up the ravelled sleeve of care (the Kind of Blue Remix), a remix of knit up the ravelled sleeve of care by coffeesuperhero.
I like stories that are Erik/Charles but from an outside POV, so, uh, I went with Raven on this one.
